Addiction Treatment for Shinnecock Indian Nation Citizens
Shinnecock Indian Nation citizens may be able to have IHS pay for addiction treatment services at Thundermaker Wellness Center in Prescott, Arizona. Thundermaker is a confirmed IHS Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) provider for the Nashville Area, and the Shinnecock PRC office in Southampton handles requests for the Nation.
Your first stop is the PRC office at 101 Church Street in Southampton, (631) 283-1440. Ask about Purchased/Referred Care for addiction treatment and name Thundermaker. Then call us at (928) 531-1930 and we carry the authorization from there with the PRC staff.
PRC pays for care IHS cannot provide directly. Each request is weighed on eligibility, medical priority, and other coverage.

We answer your call 24 hours a day.

Do I Live in the PRC Delivery Area (PRCDA)?

PRC pays for people who live in the PRC delivery area (PRCDA). For the Shinnecock Indian Nation, IHS set that area as two Long Island counties: Nassau and Suffolk.
That covers Southampton, Shinnecock Hills, Hampton Bays, Riverhead, and the rest of Suffolk County, along with all of Nassau County.
If you live off Long Island, ask the PRC office what applies to you.
How Do I Get Started?
Three steps in this order. The PRC office must approve care before it starts.
- Visit or call the PRC officeCall (631) 283-1440 or stop by 101 Church Street. Tell the staff you want addiction treatment and ask for Thundermaker Wellness Center by name.
- Call usAdmissions picks up (928) 531-1930 every hour of the day. We assemble your clinical records and stay in contact with the PRC office until it decides. Referring staff can ask for Jeri.
- Fly out to PrescottOnce you are approved, we set a start date and help you plan the trip from Long Island. Your first day is for settling in and building your plan with a counselor. Read about your first day.
In an emergency, get help first. Then let the PRC office know within 72 hours, or within 30 days if you are 65 or older or have a disability. PRC usually cannot pay for care it was not told about.
Why Should I Pick Thundermaker for My Treatment and Recovery in Arizona?

For many people, getting away from home is the healthier way to begin treatment. Far from Long Island, the routines, people, and places tied to drinking or using lose their pull, and you can put your full attention on healing. Here you heal among other Native people, with culture at the center of the day.
Thundermaker is Native owned and operated, and Native staff who have lived recovery lead the work. In our Cultural and Traditional Program, ceremony, sweat lodge, drum, garden work, and traditional arts sit beside licensed counseling. You may take part in the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), or individual and family counseling.
When you head home to Southampton, we help set up support in Suffolk County so your recovery keeps going.
Every person who reaches out is welcomed as a relative.
