Intensive Outpatient Program

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Prescott, Arizona

Keep your job. Sleep in your own bed. Show up for your kids. Get well anyway. Our Intensive Outpatient Program brings counseling, group, and ceremony together a few days a week, so treatment fits around the life you are fighting for.

IOP is structured addiction treatment that meets several times a week for a few hours at a time. You live at home and keep up with work, school, and family between sessions.

At Thundermaker, IOP pairs proven counseling with Indigenous ceremony in one program.

You need help and you cannot disappear for a month.

Rent is due. Kids need rides. The job is hanging by a thread. Weekly counseling has not been enough, and stepping away from your whole life feels impossible. You should not have to lose everything to get well.

You Are Not Walking This Alone

We built IOP for people with jobs, kids, and bills, because that describes most of the people who call us.

  • Native owned and operated, with ceremony and counseling in one place
  • Licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services (OTC20145)
  • AHCCCS accepted. Confirmed IHS PRC provider for the Nashville Area
  • Ceremony and clinical care in one program, in Prescott, Arizona

Is IOP Right for Me?

IOP is a good fit if you:

  • Want to stop drinking or using and need more support than a weekly counseling visit
  • Have a safe, stable place to live while you are in treatment
  • Need to keep working, caring for family, or going to school
  • Are stepping down from our Partial Hospitalization Program and want to keep momentum
  • Have a court, probation, or tribal court requirement to complete outpatient treatment

If you need more structure than that, your counselor may recommend PHP.

What Does a Week in IOP Look Like?

Your exact schedule is set at your assessment. These are the pieces that fill it.

  1. Group sessionsRelapse prevention, coping skills, and honest talk with relatives walking the same road.
  2. Individual counselingOne on one time with your counselor, including trauma therapy and EMDR when it fits.
  3. Ceremony and cultureTalking circles, sweat lodge, drum, garden, and traditional arts, woven through the week.
  4. FamilyWith your consent, the people you choose are part of the plan, from the first call to the day you finish.
  5. A plan for afterBefore you finish, you leave with a plan you helped write, including who you call when it gets hard.

Telehealth sessions are available for some parts of the program. Ask admissions what fits your situation.

Where Does Culture Fit In?

Many relatives have walked away from treatment because every program they tried felt like a hospital or a jail. Here, the counselor and the cultural practitioner work from the same plan. Sage in the morning, a circle in the afternoon, and evidence based counseling in between.

AHCCCS

Accepted. Members can often start within days. How AHCCCS covers treatment.

IHS Purchased/Referred Care

IHS PRC may pay when your service unit authorizes care first. How PRC works.

Tribal funding

Some tribes pay for treatment directly. Ask your tribe, or have them call us.

Private pay and other insurance

Private pay is available. Tell us about Medicare, VA, or other coverage on the first call and we check it.

PHP or IOP?

PHP is the most structured outpatient care: treatment for most of the day on several days each week, home every night. IOP meets for fewer hours, so life keeps moving while you heal. Many relatives start in PHP and step down to IOP as they get steady.

You do not have to decide this alone. Your assessment shows which level fits, and the plan changes as you do. Read about PHP.

What Are My Next Steps?

  2. We sort out coverageAHCCCS, IHS PRC, tribal funding, or private pay. Admissions handles the paperwork with you and gives you a start date.
  3. Start with your peopleYour first day: assessment, a meal at the table, and a plan you help write. See what the first days look like.

If nothing changes

Without enough support, most people fall back into the same pattern, and the job, the kids, and the relationships they were trying to protect slip anyway.

What it can look like instead

You keep your job. You sleep at home. You come to group with something to say, you go to ceremony, and month by month your family sees you coming back.
