Starting treatment at Thundermaker

What to Expect Your First Day at Thundermaker and What You Need to Bring

The scariest part is not knowing what it will be like. So here it is. No surprises, no shame. Just the start.

Day one: we welcome you, you finish your assessment, and we share a meal together. Day two: we show you the rhythm, clinical work and cultural work side by side. Day three: you have a counselor who knows your name and a plan we wrote together. You go home every night.

The hardest part is the unknown.

You are about to walk into a building full of strangers and talk about the hardest thing in your life. Not knowing what it will be like keeps people from showing up. Nobody should start treatment afraid of what is behind the door.

You Are Not Walking This Alone

  2. Day one: settle inYour assessment, a meal at the table with everyone, and your people. Nobody makes you talk in group on day one.
  3. Day two: learn the rhythmSage in the morning, your first circle. You start to see how the days go here: clinical work and cultural work, side by side.
  4. Day three: you have a placeA counselor who knows your name, a job in the garden or the shop, and a plan you helped write. By now you have shared a few meals with the same people. It feels like family.
