How do I pay?
Does AHCCCS Cover Addiction Treatment?
You have AHCCCS, or someone you love does, and you need to know one thing before you pick up the phone: will it pay? For outpatient addiction treatment at Thundermaker, the answer is yes. AHCCCS is accepted here, and AHCCCS members can often start within days.
AHCCCS is Arizona's Medicaid program, and it covers medically necessary treatment for alcohol and drug addiction. Thundermaker accepts AHCCCS for our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and counseling.
American Indian and Alaska Native members can use the American Indian Health Program (AIHP) or an AHCCCS Complete Care (ACC) health plan. Tell us which one you have on the first call and we check your coverage the same day.
We answer your call 24 hours a day.
You want treatment. The money question is in the way.
You are worried the bill will land on your family, or that the paperwork will eat weeks you do not have. Every day spent wondering is a day the drinking or using keeps going. Nobody should have to choose between getting well and keeping the lights on.
You Are Not Walking This Alone

What Does AHCCCS Cover at Thundermaker?
AHCCCS pays for treatment your clinician finds medically necessary. At Thundermaker that usually means one of these, chosen with you after your assessment:
- Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): the most structured outpatient care, most of the day on several days each week, home every night.
- Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): fewer hours each week, built around work, school, and family.
- Individual, family, and couples counseling, trauma therapy and EMDR, relapse prevention, and case management.
Ceremony, sweat lodge, drum, garden, and traditional arts run alongside the clinical work through our Cultural and Traditional Program. Every relative in treatment here has a place in it.
Should I Choose AIHP or an ACC Plan?
American Indian and Alaska Native members get a choice most AHCCCS members do not.

How Do I Check a Treatment Provider?
Arizona has seen fake treatment and sober living businesses target Native families. Before you trust any program with someone you love, check three things. Here are ours.
- State license. Thundermaker holds Arizona Department of Health Services license OTC20145. Look up any license on AZ Care Check (opens in new tab).
- NPI number. Ours is 1821896051, listed in the national NPI registry (opens in new tab).
- A real address you can visit. 1045 Whipple Street, Prescott, Arizona 86305.
AHCCCS also posts warnings and a hotline for reporting suspected fraud on its website. Use them.
If nothing changes
Families who assume they cannot afford treatment often wait until a crisis decides for them: an arrest, a hospital stay, a funeral.
What it can look like instead
A start date this week. Coverage confirmed. A counselor who knows your name, ceremony in your week, and your family breathing again.
