Meet the Relative Support Specialist
Melia is a proud member of the Navajo Nation, born for Water’s Edge Clan, Coyote Pass People, Red Bottom People, and Rainbow Over the Red House People. Her work is guided by the principles she was raised with—compassion, respect for relatives, integrity, accountability, and equity. Coming from a traditional and holistic home, she carries a deep understanding of cultural practices and incorporates these teachings into healing‑centered treatment approaches.
She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a focus on holistic and traditional therapeutic practices, along with a minor in social work. As an eight‑year sober relative and a second‑generation social worker, Melia brings both lived experience and generational knowledge to her role. She is proud of her traditional upbringing and the cultural values that continue to shape her path.
Within Thundermaker, Melia serves as a resource for relatives seeking guidance in cultural and traditional healing. She integrates the teachings she has learned into the holistic and culturally grounded approaches offered by the organization, helping people navigate recovery and sobriety through both cultural identity and clinical support.
Outside of her professional work, Melia finds balance in nature—hiking, spending time outdoors, and attending ceremonies including Navajo Traditional, NAC, and Lakota. She cherishes time with her family and animals, grounding herself in the practices that sustain her. She lives by the teaching, “Live and walk your prayer,” carrying it into every part of her work and life.
